Administrators and teachers develop the  knowledge, skills, and tools needed to confidently transition to CCSS in order to prepare students for success on the “next generation assessments coming in 2014. 

Workshop activities provide opportunities to make sense of the underlying principles and the major shifts that make CCSS different from current state standards.  Leave with a sense of confidence about next steps for reorganizing curriculum, instruction, and assessment to prepare your students for 2014.

 

In this session, participants will develop capacity to...

Þ Explain the design of the Common Core ELA standards

Þ Discuss the organizational features of the Common Core ELA Standards, especially the newly defined roles of informational text K-5, and of 6-12 content teachers in developing literacy

Þ Use the Common Core ELA standards as guides to instruction, practice, and assessment in ELA and within all other content areas

Þ Address issues related to teaching and assessing caused by the gaps between current state standards and the increased rigor of the Common Core ELA Standards

Þ Plan to lead the transition to and implementation of the Common Core State Standards effectively and meaningfully

Þ Access and use a wide variety of resources to support the transition

 

About the Presenter 

Michael Pietrzak currently develops and delivers numerous programs and provides direct service to a number of Chicago Public Schools and other School Districts to support them in transitioning to the Common Core State Standards. With over 30 years of experience at all levels spanning K-20 teaching and administration, teacher education, principal preparation, and work at the state level, he effectively addresses issues related to policy, theory, and practice leaving participants with a sense of confidence about their work.  Michael holds certifications as a Birth to Age 9 and K-9 teacher, and as a K-12 administrator in Illinois.
